Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)
(OCD/Anxiety)
-
ERP is a therapy that helps people work through anxiety, especially if they struggle with obsessive thoughts or compulsive behaviors (like in OCD).
The goal isn’t to erase scary or uncomfortable thoughts—but to change how you respond to them, so they no longer control your life. -
We’ll work together to help you gradually face things that make you anxious or trigger unwanted thoughts (this is the "exposure" part). Then, we’ll practice not doing the rituals or habits that usually follow (that’s the "response prevention" part).
Over time, your brain learns:
These thoughts or situations aren’t dangerous.
You can handle the anxiety without relying on compulsive behaviors.
The discomfort fades the more you practice.
-
ERP helps you:
Feel more confident managing anxiety and uncertainty
Reduce time spent on rituals and overthinking
Reclaim energy and focus for the things you care about
Strengthen your ability to tolerate discomfort and trust yourself
You’ll have full support as we build a plan that moves at your pace. We’ll start with smaller steps and work our way up together.
You're In Charge of Your Growth
ERP is not about throwing you into situations that feel overwhelming. It’s about building courage one step at a time—with collaboration, humor (where helpful), and lots of support.
Prolonged Exposure (PE)
(Trauma/PTSD)
-
Prolonged Exposure Therapy is a treatment designed to help people feel less stuck in the fear, anxiety, or avoidance that often comes after experiencing trauma.
The idea is simple but powerful: by gently and safely facing memories and situations that feel scary or overwhelming, your brain can start to understand that you’re no longer in danger—and you regain control over your life. -
We’ll work together using a few specific strategies:
Learning About PTSD: We’ll talk about how trauma impacts your thoughts, feelings, and body—and how this therapy helps.
Imaginal Exposure: You’ll describe your traumatic memory in detail, in a safe space, so that it loses the intensity it holds over time.
In Vivo Exposure: You’ll face real-life situations you’ve been avoiding (like a place or activity) step by step—starting with ones that feel safest.
Practice Outside of Sessions: You’ll listen to recordings from sessions and try out certain exercises between visits, so your healing continues outside the room.
-
PE therapy helps your brain learn that memories are just memories—not threats.
Over time, this can reduce flashbacks, anxiety, panic, and avoidance, and help you feel more confident, capable, and present in your daily life.
Behavioral Activation (BA)
(Depression)
-
Behavioral Activation is a therapy that helps people with depression reconnect with activities that bring joy, meaning, or a sense of accomplishment.
When we’re feeling low, it’s common to withdraw or stop doing things we used to enjoy—which can make us feel even worse. BA gently helps reverse that cycle. -
Together, we’ll explore:
What matters to you—your values, interests, and goals.
What you’ve stopped doing—activities that used to lift your mood or give you purpose.
Small steps forward—we’ll plan and try out manageable activities that can help you feel better over time.
Even if motivation feels low, taking action first can help your mood catch up later. It’s about doing before feeling ready, with support every step of the way.
-
BA helps you:
Feel more energized and hopeful
Build confidence through small wins
Break the cycle of avoidance and isolation
Reconnect with what gives your life meaning
You’re Not Alone in This. We’ll go at a pace that feels doable. You won’t be asked to overhaul your life overnight—just to take one step at a time, with guidance and encouragement.
